Labor Day season means strict drunk driving enforcement

Labor Day marks the tentpole of a period of time when drunk driving accidents increase significantly throughout Tennessee, and many law enforcement agencies and safety advocacy groups are cooperating together to combat drunk driving injuries and accidents. As a result, law enforcement here in Clarksville will be observing zero-tolerance toward drivers found driving while intoxicated.

If you are celebrating this long weekend and beyond, it is important to remember how many options you have other than driving after drinking. Public transportation, like the Clarksville Transit System, can help you get from place to place without endangering yourself or other drivers. If you cannot use public transportation, you can assign a designated driver to help yourself and your whole party safe.

If a designated driver is not possible, you can call a friend or a cab to come give you a ride. While these seem like silly or embarrassing solutions at the time, they are far preferable to the dangers you place yourself and others in by driving while impaired. Furthermore, you certainly don't want to deal with a drunk driving charge if you can avoid it. During this season particularly, drunk drivers face additional harsh punishments in the face of drunk driving convictions. Don't make a driving choice that turns you into another drunk driving statistic.

If you do find yourself facing drunk driving charges, be sure to consult with an experienced attorney. Like all criminal charges, you deserve to defend your reputation and rights against these charges, and an experienced attorney can help you determine strong defense that addresses your needs and protects your future.
